Last week I was at the Chateau Montelena Winery in Calistoga, CA for some wine tasting. As we were leaving, I glanced down at the sidewalk and noticed an odd-looking disc embedded in the stone.

Well that's pretty cool! A perfunctory glance leads me to believe it's legit, but If ever there was a good use for a fake/replica, this would be it.

Who in their right mind would sacrifice a genuine silver eagle for this? Then again it is California where even the value of an ounce of silver doesn't have much purchasing power.

Interesting - I wonder if it is meant to be a personal "memorial." (perhaps a visit reminder? or placed by the person installing the stairs?).

If it was done in 2017, the cost for the bullion coin would have been ~$20.00 (spot + premium) - hardly a significant investment for a lasting memory. (Even at today's silver spot price, it's not much of an expense.)
