Not really sure what this coin is, If it's even a coin. It appears to have a date on the obverse, and writing on the reverse, but both are arabic.

A coin it is, and from one of the most exotic of locations: the Sultanate of Zanzibar, a 1 pysa dated 1299 by the Islamic calendar (= 1882 AD). Listed in the catalogue as KM# 1.

Zanzibar is a small group of islands off the coast of eastern Africa, and currently owned by the republic of Tanzania. The "zan" in Tanzania stands for "Zanzibar".

Well Joe are you in luck. From Zanzibar a 1 Pysa copper coin Arabic AH date 1299 is 1881. Details on the net at https://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=1343839
Seems to be very scarce. Hope it's genuine.

No, they're not that scarce; that's just a seller hyping his coin up a bit. I paid five bucks for mine back in 1997.

Not too scarce, there are usually several on ebay at decent prices.
