larena, A good magnifying glass does wonders :) If I am looking without the magnifying glass, I check both sides - in case there is a 2007 double headed one (have not found one yet!), and then just keep aside the "early heads" to look at the dates later on.

we have 3, 2 home made from broken binoculars ( thanks kids ) and a 10xloupe, but I am starting to think of either buying a larger unit or just scanning every coin and looking at the scans.

Erkle, When I just read "we have 3", I first thought you were referring to "2007 double headed 5 cent"!

Thanks Shanew, pretty sure it's real, I got it in change and was about to put it in my 5c jar, but checked it first. I'm not a serious collector, but have put some away for my grandson. This coin was like new when I got it and I wrapped it in a tissue. I swapped handbags and almost threw the tissue in the garbage lol. It is still shiny and pretty, so will put away for now :-)

just drop 2X 5c piece on the same surface if they sound the same I will say you have the real deal if this one has a hollow sound its a fake or joined coin but my feeling is it real and weigh both this and another 5c and you will have your answer HA GOOD LUCK I HOPE ITS TRUE

it was that shiny when I got it, that's what made me check it. I wrapped it in the tissue and that's where it stayed, deep in my old handbag, till the other day lol Have wrapped it back up and put away and probably forget again :-)

What or is there an explanation from the mint on how these coins were produced?

Hi Caddy56, that is a lovely coin.
However, I would rethink wrapping the coin in tissue, unless it is acid free tissue and/or of an archival quality.
Better storage options are saflips or 2x2, both of which are talked about a lot on this forum.
