Hi again.

This is one of the two coins I picked up today.
Once again a 600 dpi scan so not so sharp.
Interesting also though, it has a die crack running through
OF AMERICA (Rev.) as well as weakness in the NTS of CENTS
High VF for my choice, but would it make EF ?
Thanks

Going by the book for EF, it should show Slight wear to leaf tips and across shield. From the photo I think it has more than slight wear.
I'll give it a VF.

Thanks all. The scan is showing a green hue that is not at all
present anywhere on the coin. I am not positive (will have to look it up)of the actual metal/metals content of these coins but it does have
a brownish hue which almost looks like rust. It is on the rims edge also. Maybe that is normal ?
Rest in Peace

It does definitely look corroded from the pics, and if it is brown with a 'rust' hue it probably is....these are supposed to be gray colored.

Cracks and poor strikes are almost the rule rather than the exception for this series - nickel really doesn't like getting smashed in a press, and the Mint had a tough time learning how to strike it.

I guess that would account for the long die crack and weak
NTS. Other than that and the light smooth coating of what I assume now
is rust, it's in pretty decent shape.

Well I don't think it is rust. It is nickel/copper right? Iron rust... not copper / nickel. Could it have been buried at some point?

I would have said VF, but super dave said it could be a weak strike... so I don't know about the grade.

I think like mentioned it is not rust but some corrosive coating.
No eating away at the surface just an even smooth presence of it.
Taking into fact it's metal mix this color may well be the norm.
for a coin that was exposed to air/moisture over the years as well
as it's handling while in circulation.
