Hello.
I have been buying scrap silver and just wondering where do you go to get rid of it?
There is a place locally that will give 6.8 times spot price per dollar.

Is this a normal price?

Thanks!

I don't understand what you mean 6.8 times of spot price per dollar. You mean per ounce? At today's rate, 1 ounce of silver is 12.66USD. If you really have scrap silver, i.e. silver wires, etc that are not rounds, bullions or coins, etc, it is quite unlikely that you can sell them at decent price as you cannot really prove the silver content.

If you are referring to culled 90% silver coins, then yes, 6.8x face is a decent price. My local coin dealer started paying 7x last week. If it is truly scrap silver (broken sterling jewelery, silverware, etc), it would have to assayed on a piece by piece basis.

Sorry for the confusion. 6.8 times face value.
So 4 Silver Quarters, they would give $8.84 if spot price is $13.00

A silver quarter at 7 times face would be $1.75 each. Most dealers will pay ? X face based on the spot price of silver and whether it is 4, 5, 6 or 7 times face it is just that. So many times face and in this case you are talking 25 cents. A fifty cent piece would be the same 7 X .50 or $3.50. A dime would be .70. Hope this helps.

I know the amount times face value varies with the price of silver, but most have a range of where it is times spot price. The local person is at 6.8 time spot price, which today may be 8 times face value.
Next week if silver is at $15.00, it may be 10 times face value.

Anyone pickin up what I am puttin down?
Or am I just confusing.
