Some background regarding my post. My late aunt emigrated from Scotland to Canada and worked in the finance sector. She sent myself and my 5 siblings one each in 1966 and told us not to spend them. The coins had never been in circulation. For many years I have been under the impression that there was an error on them but I have since discovered that some were large and some small beads. Thanks for any information

What you have is the "Large Beads" variety. The Small Beads are Scarcer; worth more, especially in high grades or proof-like condition. There is another variety: "Small Dots," which can be located below the canoe near the waterline, actually die chips.
The best way to tell is that with the small beads, you should be able to put another bead in the spacing between them. This is a case where with the increase in silver, the melt value exceeds the numismatic value.
