CCF! Welcome back and I have my first penny with some questions! Now it is not a pretty penny by any means and dependent on what kind of knowledge the CCF drops in here will help me determine if it stays and gets cleaned up for better diagnosing or goes in my zincs dump pile. I will be adding a decent post about how I ROLL, hunt that is, at the latest this weekend. Lots of questions and lots of pictures so stay tuned.

Anyways, here are a few shots of an odd 1988-D LMC with some weird bb like impacts all over both Obverse and Reverse, these all are indented, incuse, if I am using that word correctly. When I first took a closer look at this Coin I believed it to be really bad PMD. What caught my eye was how weird the D mint mark looked. There are two raised areas around the mint mark, one to the North and another to the South East. I started looking for more odd damage as this seemed to be odd having so many different raised areas and even impact areas, most looking like impacts from a BB gun. I didn't bother circling all the impact craters as there are many but circled odd raised areas for your attention in the 2nd and 4th photos that are just duplicates of 1 and 3 but circled in red are suspect areas labeled "Circled".

P.S. Not all raised or incuse areas of coin are circled, I believe there is another raised area near Lincoln's neck just as his beard starts and also some strangeness near/on his ear but please look around non circled photos to see what you may find as well!

My question is could this be F.O.D. (Foreign Object Damage) as we call it in aviation from some type of metal being present during the strike? Or am I just seeing a lot of PMD?

These photos are not of the clearest quality, I apologize, as I have not setup my Tomlov to transfer images yet. I promise I will and will write up how I do it in this ALL or NOTHING journey!

Just wanted to stop in and say happy 4th of July to everyone! Be safe, enjoy your family and have a great day celebrating the United States of America's 249th Birthday! We are a young country and still have ALOT of growing up to do! Luckily we all have growing pains and so does this wonderful country of ours, but thankfully the Men and Women who adorn most of the coins we all enjoy collecting have laid a foundation, that we should all study, and use the best of what they have given us to make not only this country but this world better, and strive to create peace for the generations to come.

-With love and respect for ALL, Kyle.

P.S. No comments on the '88-D?

Since this was not getting any attention, I have split it into its own topic for the proper attention.

Just seeing a normal circulated cent with staining, PMD, and possible zinc rot around the mint mark.

Thanks everyone! Yes very normal circulated cent, I was just curious about some of the raised bumps and odd things I am seeing. Gotta learn it all if I want to be able to diagnose with the best of you! So those raised metal bumps are forms of zinc rot? Is that the same thing I am seeing, late '80s early '90s LMC a lot, when it looks like the coin has goosebumps? Are these signs of zinc rot?
