Over the next 10 days, I will be sharing one Canadian coin per day in its own topic, starting with #1 in this thread.
Side Note: I primarily collect US coins, but began collecting Canadian coinage just over seven months ago, basically due to my fascination with their unique and often stunning toning.
I hope you find these posts both enjoyable and informative.

Portrait: Young Queen Victoria
Insription: "VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA"

Edit: I personally don't believe this is a MS62-rated coin; PCGS gave this coin a pass.
I would say, AU58

Should be a fun thread. Can you share a little bit about why you have picked out this coin (and future ones) to add to your largely US collection? Thx.

That's a big discrepancy.

I'll dig out a few of my Canadian pieces to post. I started collecting them when I was quite young because they'd often end up in the toll of the family business, which I was allowed to scour for older US coins. In more recent years Canadian pieces have turned up in various auction lots, sometimes some real keepers.

Many thanks for your interest!
Thank you, Buffalo soldat, it sure is a big difference (From PCGS MS63 to my opinion AU58)

Thank you jbuck,
I wasn't initially a fan of the 1896 Canadian 5-cent coin, but the more I see other specimens, it's really starting to grow on me.

Here is what it looks like inside its slab..

Sorry to point this out but I just noticed that you have
the mintage wrong on your composite photo.
It should read 1,500,000.
Also where did you get the information that it is a
near 6 variety, as far as I know, 1896 was one of the
few years there was no recognized variety. There is a
debate over whether there is a large 96 variety but I have
not seen it recognized as a variety by the grading companies.

I want to thank you, JimmyD., I am not an expert in numismatics, especially in Canadian coins. Your input with corrections is more than welcome, which will help me understand my Canadian coins even better.
Keep alert, Sir, more coins are coming..
The pictures below show where I obtained my information, "AI"

Al is the worst possible place to get information about coins.
When it comes to numismatics it doesn't know its rear from a hole in the ground.
That information about the 6 refers to the 1886 5 cent, not the 1896.
It can't even tell the difference between a counterfeit and a genuine coin.
Please refer to more reliable sources when seeking information about coins.

OK, thank you for this insight. However, it seems that American coins have a wealth of information on their mintage readily available, or I may be looking in the wrong places...
Can you provide a more reliable website that I can use as a trusted source for information on Canadian coins?
I will correct the first image I listed above (1896 Canadian 5 cents). Again, thank you, JimmyD.

The best source of information is a Charlton Catalogue Volume 1 on Canadian Coins.
It has all the varieties listed with photos of each. An earlier used one will suffice
unless you are looking at modern coins.
coinsandcanada.com & saskatooncoinclub are two online resources that are also useful.
Of course there many knowledgeable people on this site that can answer most of your questions.

Seems you posted another coin just when I posted my answer.
It is best to start a new post with each new coin to avoid confusion .A mod will probably move this one.p

Now that I look at it, the admin could move the 2nd coin message.
Create a new thread "An American Perspective On Canadian Coins #2 or Part 2.
I was not thinking of having this much dialogue in this thread.. lol
Thank you for the Canadian links....
