Yes, classic zinc core Memorial cent mint mark zinc rot--likely triggered by split plating.

True, it's messed up by zinc rot.
Very common zincoins.

It cannot be a "repunched mintmark", because the coin has a 1993 date and in US mints the practice of punching mintmarks separately onto dies or hubs ceased in 1990.

Zinc rot causes bubbles to form randomly across a coin's surface. Sometimes, a bubble forms directly underneath the mintmark, lifting it up. When the bubble collapses, it forms a volcano-like ring, often with the copper corroded away from the centre.

In short: anytime you find a round or ring-shaped feature on a zincoln, assume it's zinc rot. The probability of an actual error in the minting process causing a defect that's nice and round like that, is virtually zero.

Frankleska, I'm a newbie per se, only 250 post or so in 2+ yrs, but I have never had anyone treat me like a turd. All have been great in their info and suggestions. I have been reading even longer and never seen any mistreatment of newbies or anyone. I may not like what I'm told by everyone , but never have I thought anyone was being mean or disrespectful. Just hang in there cause it's tough when you think you have something and they tell you you don't. So much to learn from these great people. Good luck in your searches.
