Hi everyone—I'm back with photos of another Trade dollar. Do you think this one is genuine? The pattern seems to match a known die pair, but I'm noticing some odd lettering in the "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on the reverse that gives me pause. What are your thoughts?

I am going to stop short of calling it a counterfeit, but it is a hard pass because of questionable authentication. On the 1873 S there is only one know die pair that has a date position close to the OP example The following issues are circled below that do not match the know JK-4 die pair:

Obverse - The elongated denticles.

Reverse - The shape of the E in America is not correct.

Reverse - The I in America is missing a serif.

Reverse - The S mint mark is to be tilted to right. The one on the OP appears to be straight.

Reverse - The stem above the N in Gains is the in the wrong position.

Thank you, Slider, for the detailed explanation. It was very helpful.

Just an update after almost a year: I decided to take the plunge and send it to NGC, and it came back as AU Details, Repaired.
