I was going through my secure storage looking for a vehicle title when I came across this Jubilee packaging of the 1936 Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge commemorative half dollar. I had completely forgotten that I had this in my collection. The coin itself is a fully lustrous example that likely would grade MS65 or so. The crack seen across the front of the coin is on the plastic holder. I could not find any information (I did not look too hard!) on the provenance of the packaging. I know for sure that Jacques Schnier was involved because of his signature and the Copyright at the lower portion of the back. Does anyone have info to share on the provenance? Finding it was a fun re-discovery!

Newman Numismatic Portal will likely send you a copy of this article if you request it. Coin World [10/01/1986] (pg. 46). Seems to describe the issuance.

Neat 50th Anniversary piece - a nice "surprise" to find! My understanding is they were sponsored/sold by Truckee Meadows Trading, Inc., a Nevada coin/bullion dealer. I presented mine here: - 1936 San Francisco-Oakland Bay BridgeMy example appears to have a white insert card vs. yours which appears to be light blue - I wasn't aware of the variety! Thanks for sharing! .

In 1987, Bowers & Merena were selling the coin in the holder for $545!

Thanks all for the responses. Quote: In 1987, Bowers & Merena were selling the coin in the holder for $545! That's near the price peak of the commemorative market. I suspect it is valued considerably less today - but of no matter to me since I don't intend to sell it.

NIce coin! Glad you found it and remember. The older I get the more I forget. Years ago I started a word document listing all my coins, what I paid, glad I did. I also have taken photos of them. This will help my daughter to understand them when I pass them on to her, hopefully later than sooner LOL.
