I was able to pick up this scarce, low-mintage Eagle at a good price. It has "busy" surfaces, with lots of small contact marks and abrasions. This seems to be typical for the date. The reverse has a few heavier marks. Nevertheless, it's in a problem-free slab. What grade do you think it deserves?

I'll guess somewhere in the AU range.

Hmmmm, not a lot of interest apparently in this coin. It's really pretty scarce, with only 2 or three known in mint state and a total survivor estimate of 175 per PCGS. I don't think it's particularly choice for the grade but it won't be easy to locate (or pay for) a nicer example. I'm pleased to add this one to my Liberty gold collection.
