my coppers dont look bad but they already looked toned somewhat. They dont look shinny shinny like the zinclons usually do. I cant wait for uncirculated set. Over the last few years I have begin to like them better.

Quote: They dont look shinny shinny like the zinclons usually do. I think that is a better way to check for possible errors, I noticed that the proof cents looked toned and less shine. I thought is was just bad lighting but this is the norm.

Quote: DNA: PR70 slabbed Zinc Memorial "S" Proof Cents I've seen at dealers practically jump out at you from the slab Quote: daviscfad: They don't look shiny shiny like the 'zincolns' usually do. Put these two quotes together and it makes sense. The bronze Proof Cents, even when brand new, are 'darker' than the copper-plated zinc Proofs. Remember, it's been since 1982 that anyone's been able to see brand new 95% Copper Proof Cents!

What am I missing here guys ? The sets can be bought for 27 dollars , yet the nickel is selling for 30-40 bucks on the bay while the dime is getting 5-10 , I'm guessing it might be an idea to get a few of these sets ?

Quote: wetglaswegian: ...the nickel is selling for 30-40 bucks on the bay while the dime is getting 5-10 The 2009 Nickels and Dimes that are fetching high prices on ebay are the business strike versions made for circulation (at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints), not the Proof Dimes and Proof Nickels in the Proof Sets (that are made at the San Francisco Mint). Due to the extremely limited distribution of the business strike 5˘ and 10˘ coins, and the fact that they are not available in Mint Rolls (as are the 2009 Cents, Quarters, Half-Dollars and Dollars), and that the mintage has been stated as already stopped for the rest of the year 2009 for the business strike coins, this means that the business strike 5˘/10˘ coins will be far harder to acquire generally than the coins in Mint Sets (which are a different 'satin' finish) or Proof Sets. Like many other people on this board, my first 2009 Nickel and 2009 Dime are the ones that are contained in this Proof Set.

So Will the Mint really inflate the price of the MINT UNC. sets?

Just like for the 2009 Proof Sets, the Mint Sets will contain more coins than they did in 2008, so some price increase is to be expected.
Specifically, the Mint Sets will have four 95% copper Lincoln 200th Anniversary Cents, in satin finish. (as compared to a single zinc Cent in satin finish)

Do you know if their is going to be a production limit or cut off date for ordering the 2009 Proof Set? I am trying to decide if I want a set or not.
Only reason for wanting the set is for the proof Lincoln cents but can't make my mind up if I want buy it or not.
What you all of you think?

Eaglefoot - No, I'm not going to bother with returning it. I'll just hunt for individual Lincoln proofs when they start showing up at the coin shows. They will probably be fairly inexpensive. Quote:This ebay seller would agree with BadThad! "We only got 4 (PF70) sets out of 100 submitted." (so would the winning bidder, from the looks of it!) I find that VERY hard to believe. Let's see, based on my dealers rate of $25 per submission, this place sent in a check for $10,000 along with 400 coins? I SERIOUSLY doubt that they were willing to roll dice that large. Not to mention, if they didn't break them out and put in flips, NGC would certainly tack on more $$$.

Large dealers get greatly discounted rates when they send large quantities of coins to a TPG such as PCGS or NGC. They can even get special services, such as slabbing a large hoard of Morgan dollars as "Brilliant Uncirculated", rather than individually graded.

The cancer of greed/money will begin to affect all of that more and more I fear, until it presents us with a less than desirable product....like so many other things in our Country !
