ebay does not care if counterfeit coins are sold on their site.

Our only contact we had, quit ebay last year (or the year before)
I wonder if there was a coin they directly copied from.
This one has an over polished doe around the eye, and it looks like a doubled eye lid too.

ebay is really bad about fake and misrepresented coins. I was looking to see what a particular DDO I had found was selling for and when I looked at ebay of the 8 listings only one of them was the real thing and obviously so. Some of these items still sold for good money.

The nose and the date is a big red flag of it being counterfeit. Laughable fake.

Bummer. How can people fall for this obvious counterfeit?

We don't see many freehand engraved die counterfeits, though. The engraver has a poor sense of proportion, and started both dies at the bottom. Notice the adjustments the engraver had to make to "fit" the design elements at the top of each die, especially the obverse. The post-engraving die cleanup wasn't bad, though. Take time to examine the surface details carefully. The striking quality isn't far off, either.

IMHO, this isn't from our friends across the big lake. It has some of the feel of the Serbian counterfeits, like the 1914-D, 1922-D, and 1931-S, but it isn't as skillfully made. I'd love to know the metal content on it.

This may be a photo to put away for future reference. I don't think we've seen the last of these. What's more concerning, I don't think we've seen the best of these, either.

EDIT: This has the look and the feel of a die cutting student learning the process. Students get better, and that's what concerns me.

Wow. It looks like they made a soft die from a late 60s/early 70s Memorial cent based on the profile, tried to alter the date (poorly done) and then used a 50s wheat reverse for the other side.
