Good Morning, this is the second 1776-1976 quarter in my collection. This quarter has a chunk missing out of the torch holder. you can see it under the flame and this quarter the drummer does not have an extra knuckle.

Just seeing circulation wear and flattening from circulation use. You may have Machine Doubling showing as well.

I think that is Machine Doubling, a worthless type of doubling common on coins.
You can also see it on the stars and some of the lettering.

Flame separated from torch....looks like the cause may have been due to over polishing of the die. "Chunk" missing most likely from a hit while in circulation and if it's raised....that would be a die chip.....If mine I would spend it.
