I purchased this off ebay and have some reservations about it mainly because there should be traces of dentils on part of the rim on one in this condition, and the color is quite off from a certified example I posted here a week or so ago. I see others on ebay though that don't show any trace of dentils. According to Breen these Plain Edge Tokens should weigh 9.77-10.04 grams, it weighs 9.76 grams so accounting for wear is perfect. They should measure 28.5-29.2mm, it measures 29.0mm exact. So it is exactly the correct weight and measure it should be. It had traces of bright green verdigris on a small area of the reverse that I was able to remove with Verdi-Care and a toothpick attack over the course of 24 hours. Curious also is that the "scratch" on each side matches up with each other, but coin is not bent. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not an expert om these but doing a side by side with a 1792 Plain Edge, it looks legit.
The lack of dentiles could be from the amount of wear on your coin.
The scratches could be from anything over the past 233 years.

Yeah, I'm just paranoid about these things. I bought a fake Virginia not too long ago and I'm always suspicious when something isn't just right about a coin. The color is weird for a copper coin. But it specs properly and looks right. Thanks.

This looks ok to me. The color is a nice brown color that copper can take on over the years depending on the environment it was in.
The 'scratch is a bit strange though. it has the same arc as the token itself. It is possible that when the blanks were getting punched out that this one got 'hit' lightly again by the punching machinery and marking the 2 sides. (just a thought on that though).

That's why I brought it up. It looks like something that might have happened during the mint process. The obverse words are displaced in a way that makes it appear it happened then. It doesn't look like your run of the mill scratch. Identical on both sides matching. I'm afraid the experts on mint errors and die breaks aren't even gonna see this because it's a colonial authentication subject that can't be changed. Tomorrow I'm going to repost it with a call to the minting process experts to take a look at it.
