Need-Help-Here-For-A-Strange-Head-Of-1945-P-Walking-Liberty
Hi guys, a big fan of half dollars. I get a 1945p walking liberty today but find the head is strange ,especially tooth-like stuff, kind of similar to bugs bunny of Franklin.l want to know whether it's just a normal damage or variety #65292;all judgements are welcome here, thanks.

My best guess would be 2 small die chips.

As Dearborn stated, full coin shots would help a lot. That being said, there is heavy die scratches all around this area which is a telltale sign of erasing a possible clash. The Franklin/bugs variety you spoke of was from the same thing, a clash that did not completely get polished away. At this point that is the direction I'm leaning in, clash remnants.

If you look at the overlay, you will see there are not design elements on the REV in this area that would cause the 4 divots as seen.

The closeup of the overlay shows it in better detail.

The last pic is of the original OBV (used to make the overlay) and the head on the overlay.

I suggest this is just PMD.

Could be, have no way of knowing without the coin in hand but do not think so. When they polish out a clash, they will go right up to the devices but not always all the way, leaving remnants leading up to the low area.

I have seen a pile of clashed coins over the years and have yet to see one that is perfectly aligned, they are almost always rotated. What we see could easily be from abrading the die and not even a clash remnant. As I said, cannot really tell, it's pure conjecture on my part, based on past similar issues.
