Yes , looks like slight rub, disturbances .
Also a slightly washed out look due to
over dipping . Still market acceptable and
a nice piece!

I agree on the grade. However I think this coin has lower eye appeal. Usually there aren't seventeen options that you can compare at this grade for this scarce issue at any given time, but if you are able, I would wait for one with knock your socks off eye appeal. If the price is attractive, that can knock your socks off too. jmho.

IMHO, the obverse is closer to AU-55 than AU-58, but the reverse is AU-58. I agree with the surface condition and eye appeal comments by Pacificoin and NS. A high grade 1894 is a big purchase and should have big purchase eye appeal.

AU-58. Looks like it might have had a cleaning at some point. Luster seems flat.

there is a fine line between 58 and an UNC coin. the lighting and angle of these photos really make it difficult to assess light wear in the key areas. it appears that the luster is very muted especially across the cheek. I would have to agree with assigned grade
