If yes, why yes? If not, why not? What are you saying? Edited by Dough101 10/15/2025 1:28 pm

Definitely FS-101, nice find! It's a DDO.
Errers and Varietys.

I am asking for your personal assessment, not others.

Is a DDO because others said so?

E & V, tell me why you said yes; state why this coin is the true DDO.

Splits on IB, die chips on the corner of the L. It does look like FS-101.
However, you need to post full coin pics, both sides. Also, images of IGWT, as the listing says that is doubled and distorted as well. Finally, close-ups of the die markers listed on Variety Vista.
Those images look really washed out. If that was done directly with a microscope, you need to adjust your lighting.

@Brandmeister, a true DDO should only look like this one? How about the dates and mint mark?

I think you should provide the pictures exactly as the ones in Variety Vista and a full obverse and reverse for anyone to be able to compare them and render an objective opinion

Quote: @Brandmeister, a true DDO should only look like this one? How about the dates and mint mark? You should know by now that a hand-punched mint mark will not be affected by a doubled die. I don't see anything special about the date.

For me, determining the root cause of double die is complex.

Looks like a doubled die to me. I can see some split serifs, and the doubling is NOT step like and the devices are NOT reduced as you would if it were MD. I only see the doubling on Liberty and not the date - however your imaged are far from ideal for analyzing for DDOs How about posting up larger images of liberty and I (or others) can point to the areas that show the (as you call it) 'true' DDO.

To me it does indeed look like FS 101. The notching in the I in Liberty is a perfect match to VV. Nice Proof DDO! Congrats

There was no known record of any manufacturing mistake or error on the die/master die, the 1968 S, P, and D Lincoln Cent. However, it was recognized that an overused and worn-out master die was still used till 1968. My research and investigation on this 1968 S Lincoln Cent is not done. I will find out what the root cause of the 1968 S Lincoln Cent's bulkiness, fullness, wholeness, and smears. I already started my investigation, so far, I suspect that " Machine Doubling" is not the root cause of 1968 S bulkiness, wholeness, boldness, and smears' appearance. I suspect a strong possibility that die essence is the root cause, overwork, deformation, and fatigue. Not the single process. In the meantime. happy hunting.
