What is the status of the world coin database project that certain CCF members were trying to spearhead?

The thread on this project is no where to be found either.

It includes KM numbers which is a copyright violation. Coin Community does not and cannot promote, endorse, or assist it in any way.

To include KM numbers in a publication is not a copyright violation, as KM will grant permission to use it as a cross reference in most publications.
However, they will seldom grant permission to use their images. Many dealers are using KM numbers in their ads.
But, why would anyone go through the trouble of coming up with a new world coin database?
a very time consuming and very extensive and expensive project.... and nearly impossible to do new....

This is not a publication mentioning a few KM numbers in articles here and there, it is downloadable software that is basically duplicating Krause without the prices. Go download CoinManage, the most popular collecting software on the planet, they leave you a blank space to put them in yourself because they are not allowed to include them. Wild Man Software is the only software licensed to include them and that was only authorized this year.

hmmm I was not aware of the infringement issue with this. I also did not realize the thread had been removed.

Going to have to agree completely IMHO. I'ld recommend they re-think this project, but I did like the idea of free software. Maybe create the software for the user to enter his or her own information about coins they have purchased without the database of Krause information. Don't know and not sure I would use it anyway, I like my Access database I use now. I do know I would rather spend my money on coins than put it in some lawyers pocket to defend me.

Hi everyone,

I have been away so I didn't see this thread until today.

Firstly let me say that there will be NO infringement of any copyright in the software.

Secondly let me say that Bobby has asked me not to discuss the software on the forum until any "POTENTIAL" copyright issues are cleared up. Obviously as this is his forum I fully intend to honour that request.

Therefore if you want to ask any further questions please direct them to me via the PM only.

In answer to the question as to "why would anyone go through the trouble of coming up with a new world coin database?" That is because this is not a database, but a collecting software. You're right, there would be no point in duplicating Krause, for instance.
