Just a quick note of warning to people about some fake antoninianii of Carus and Probus that are starting to come on the market.

I have heard that 1000 uncleaned versions of these coins were offered to a European dealer. Their uncleaned nature is false. They come from 5 die pairs, four of Probus and one of Carus. They have now started to appear on ebay and have been selling quickly at Eur 20 each.

Be aware of them.

Thanks for the headsup, whoever did the dies is good. It would be hard to tell that these are fakes.

I suspect that they are die transfers rather than hand crafted from scratch and so are dies created from various genuine coins that have been combined to make the results we see here.
