1980 Susan B Anthony Dollar / SBA Dollar Near Date?

GaCoinNewbie New Member United States 20 Posts	Posted 10/23/2025 5:28 pm * Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. * I think I read somewhere there (supposedly) is no such thing as a 1980 near date (wide rim) SBA dollar coins. I was just curious because in going through $1,000 of dollar coins, I found about five 1980 coins that the date is very near the edge. I found some further away also. So I was just curious what the experts here think. In that same $1K I only found one 1979 near date... THANKS Report this Post to the Staff

ratman4762 Pillar of the Community United States 2520 Posts	Posted 10/23/2025 5:42 pm I'm far from an expert on SBA's, but I believe the design change took place late in 1979, and affected all subsequent issues, so 1980 and 1981 would all be technically near dates. That would be the 1979-P dollar only, where there are the 2 varieties of 'near and far' date coins. Collecting since 1972. Learning from then on "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember.
