No issues with authenticity. It's a VAM-3 with die scratches in front of the eye. Even with all the marks on the cheek, I'd say it makes MS-63.

the discoloration and toning lead me to believe the coin wasnt properly stored over the years. the only thing that would affect is the eye appeal a little. looking close at the jaw line its pretty beat up. imo its borderline MS62/63

Improper storage may indeed be an issue. This is part of my dad's collection from over 50yrs. ago. Back when cleaning coins was not taboo. Perhaps my images are poor but appears to me unadulterated.

Clearly not gem quality but typical of bagged coins. Am I wrong?

value wise there is not a lot of difference between a 62 and 63. both are retailing in the $700 range. any CC is highly collected and very desirable in MS conditions. the coin will only go up in value in the future. thanks Dad. if you know me, I rarely suggest slabbing a coin. I use the following guideline two reasons to slab 1. its a rare coin that needs authenticated and preserved 2. you are planning on selling the coin and the cost of acquisition plus the grading fee's would warrant it without chewing up all your profit if you are inclined, I would suggest sending this one in and have it conserved as well. I dont know which TPG does the best job at that but here is the cost for just the grading. no idea what they charge to conserve but it could be worth it. PCGS charges a minimum of $69 for a subscription other subscription levels include grading vouchers though so you could reduce these costs if you have other higher end coins. add to the subscription cost, per coin grading cost which I think for this one is $23, shipping & ins both ways (1-4 coins is $27 if the total value is under $1000) repost if you decide to slab it. if you dont, I would suggest placing it in an airtite holder
