I thought that this coin was worth sharing. Possibly the earliest Augustus provincial in my collection is this CA series coin of uncertain Syrian mint, possibly Antiochia ad Orontem in Seleucis & Pieria, modern-day Antakaya in Turkey. RPC Note: The absence of a legend on the obv. may indicate that this variety was made earlier than the rest of the group. RPC suggests the CA represents C(aesar) A(ugustus), however the British Museum Curator comments that CA is possibly a representation of honorific wreaths to Augustus by the C(ommune) A(siae).

Obverse; bare head of Augustus right, without discernible legends. Reverse; pellet between large C A, all within laurel-wreath.
Bronze. Diameter: 22 mm. Weight: 7.93 gr.
