Going through various coins that my father passed on to me. Here's one that I am not familiar with but am trying to learn more. I believe it's copper and I have seen examples of various conditions on ebay. Designed by Ben Franklin, it features a sundial on the obverse with the words, "Mind Your Business". The reverse should say "We Are One" in the center.

Was wondering if you keen-eyed fellows could tell me if it is authentic.

It is so worn and corroded that it is hard to see any of the markers
but because of this I would say it was genuine. There are various
varieties plus restrike of the Fugio cent. Unless someone else can
give you a definite answer either way, I would send it to a TPG to
be certified. If genuine, it would be worth the cost.

I'd say it's absolutely genuine, it's an obverse 12, but the reverse is so far gone I can't tell what variety it is. I don't believe a fake would match a known die variety that exactly.

Definitely worth sending in to a TPG. It could very well be genuine.

Thank you for the suggestions. I've never dealt with a TPG in my life but I guess I will have to look into it. :-)

I'll be the odd one out, I wouldn't send it to a TPG. I just don't see any gain in having it done and it isn't cheap. It would never straight grade, just come back genuine, environmental damage or corrosion.

Getting it marked as genuine improves resale value, if that is a concern.

Slabbed as "genuine" is better than a raw "probably."

YMMV.

Maybe I've collected colonial coins too long, most colonial collectors prefer raw coins. That Fugio is genuine, no question about it, in its raw state it's about a $250 to $300 coin. I've been tracking the price increases on Fugios since they were declared regular issue coins, and with lower grade and detail coins there just isn't much difference slabbed or raw. I just don't see the value being enough higher slabbed to cover the cost, maybe if it went to ANACS.

Today, that is the expected case.

Nothing says it has to stay in the slab after you buy it. I have cracked three coins to get them into my Dansco albums.

I will be cracking at least three more because they are coins I cannot trust to buy raw now, not like I could have ten or twenty years ago. Unfortunately, most everyone has bought into the "that coin needs to be in a slab" mentality. All the raw ones I am finding are beyond suspect.

But, like ArrowsAndRays said above, YMMV.

Yep, I've cracked a bunch of them. Sometimes NGC slabs pop so easy you could re-use them. That's kind of scary!

I have to say, the PCGS slabs took a little more finesse, but the NGC slabs were the easiest to get into. However, mine would not be reuseable...
