2004 D Washington Quarter Clad Layer Problem

Here's a similar coin to the 2001 D I posted perviously. Difference being the edge where the surface elevation changes. That one was smooth transitions, like possibly the first or last planchet that had an incomplete clad later. This one appears more like a break or damage to the planchet before (or during) the strike.

ok so what does the reverse side look like in that area?
If there is "missing" metal on the obverse, I would expect to see a weaker strike on the reverse then.

Good point. But that would only apply if it occured before the strike. During or after it wouldn't affect the obverse. The obverse has the same issue, but it's smaller and not as deep. Here that image ->

anyway, I think you should take up Bobby's offer on grading if you feel so strongly that you are correct - if you are right, then you get a free slabbing and attribution.. But if you are wrong - well, are you a betting man?

I think that offer was for a different coin or the offer got deleted. Anyway I have several I need to send out. This will be one of them.
