I bought this unusual token the other day while
at an estate sale. I can't find any info on it
so I thought I would ask the community. One side
has BRYN SWLAO and an axe with AS on the left, and
XIII on the right. The other side just has the number
3 in a star with a wreath around it. Anyone know what
it is or could be? Thanks in advance.

I believe your "S" is a Celtic "G" and your "O" is a Celtic "D" - so it reads "Bryn Gwlad".

Googling that phrase comes up with numerous mentions of a branch of the Society of Creative Anachronisms in Austin, Texas. The SCA is a historical re-enactment organization; I strongly suspect your "token" was made at one of their gatherings as a demonstration of mediaeval-style die-cutting and coin striking.

Looking at their website, that same unusual 5-pointed-star-in-wreath pattern on the reverse of your "coin" is used on the Baron of Bryn Gwlad's coat of arms. You could try contacting the Baron to see if this is one of his creations, and ask him where, how and why it was made.

Found the date. According to the Ansteorra homepage, this year is Anno Societas XLIV (44th year of the Society). Your coin is dated AS 13, which means it was struck in 1978.
