So far I have about 30 Commemorative coins most are in the OGP and counting mostly 80's and 90's some 2000's just got 12 in and more coming soon. the topic is what impact that a News pundit plugging a startup bullion seller that claimed the "Commemorative coins were a rip off " claiming that the coins real value was just the silver content and totally ignored the numismatic values. if your just looking to invest in silver yea you only see the bullion value but due to his claims to the public the values of these collectable coins is lower then they should be. I think this and other pundits should be notified they didn't do there research before mouthing off! this has caused collectors fanatical harm as we have $ invested and the pundit made a profit plugging a Bullion company.

The truth is, modern US commemorative coins have not - for the most part - proven to be good investments. Often, their market value is driven by their intrinsic bullion value with little numismatic premium. Whether a collector agrees or disagrees with this is immaterial, it is the reality. Modern US commemorative coins should not be collected with an eye on financial profit - they should be collected for enjoyment they bring and the history they represent.

I've collected them for years, but never with an expectation of profit.

Enjoy the coins that you wish to collect, without an eye towards future financial gain.

The enjoyment of the hobby should take precedence over cost considerations.

If you enjoy the designs/ideas represented on current commemorative coins then I suggest rejoice in collecting them.

I would have to agreed with commems here, most modern coins collected really don't garner a large profit margin

I agree with all about the "investment" on the modern commemoratives. But yet I have a complete type set of modern commemorative dollars and about 75% of the $5 gold commemoratives. The gold has increased nicely over purchase prices but is linked to bullion value.

I'm missing about 8 coins to have a full graded run of the uncirculated commemorative dollar set. These coins aren't a great investment if you buy from the Mint, but are a great deal if you purchase them during pullbacks of silver spot. I like the look of the Uncirculated examples and unspotted coins can be hard to find. I also wonder how many of these will end in the melt buckets as the price of silver increases.
