My first double die find... I think... I'm sure you all can tell me if it is and how significant of a find it is if at all.

Common Machine Doubling, a worthless type of doubling.

Unfortunately, it's Machine Doubling. Don't give up though. There's good coins waiting to be found.

Yes, you are correct, but it has a tiny bit of value - 1 cent if zinc, or maybe a few cents (melt) if copper.

The reason I thought it was dd was because the doubling seemed to be consistent on the right sides of the letter as the right side of the memorial and also the S at the top. Is Machine Doubling often consistent like that?

Machine Doubling doesn't really have a "standard" - that is why you have to be able to tell the characteristics of it.

So yes, to answer your question, there are several different types of Machine Doubling, but this is probably the most common, all in on direction.

But as I said, there are several different types. If you look at the pics Marve put up, they will typically fall in line with those basic features, regardless of the type of MD it is. MD usually cuts off the original size of the device, which is the thing you need to look for. It's a bit aggravating, but if you give it time you will catch on.

All of the Machine Doubling types. https://www.error-ref.com/?s=machine+doubling+
