Hellow all,
found a couple of these while sorting.
I remeber a post while back, someone was talking about a recut or recurfaced die putting lines on their coin. was wondering if this is what that is.

It looks like roller lines that have been accentuated by some type of residue.

It looks like it was once wrapped in strapping tape. Have you tried soaking it in acetone?

To me, that pattern looks like the striped non-slip backing in photo albums.

Like Hondo stated - some type of "Filament Tape" wrapping?

Could be filament tape (but I doubt it), but I think that roller lines are also in play here.
The lines on the reverse are going in the same direction as the obverse. I doubt that the 'would be taper' would or 'could' line up the tape intentionally, or even accidently to line up like that.

When tape is placed on a coin, it will not usually contact the coin at the corners where the device elements meet the fields., on this coin, the lined transition from the field to the device with no gaps at the transitions.

Interesting find. Could have toned while wrapped in some fabric.
