Has anyone here ever found a 1991 quarter in circulation? I have never seen one.

Me either. I bought a circulated one from a from a dealer a couple years back in order to fill a gap in my collection. Can't remember what I paid for it but I think it was like 5 bucks or something. Charlton says they only made 459K for circulation so that explains the rarity. They were also released in proof like sets as well. They go on to say these values for the ones made for circulation. MS63-$20 MS-64-$30 MS-65-$200

In over 15 years of searching,I have found only one.Did buy a roll though, and judging from the rolls and MS singles available on ebay,I would say ciculated examples are probably rarer than their mintstate counterparts.

Come to think of it, I havn't seen one ever in my change, however, I'll keep a look out for 'em now real close. I'm still trying to find an 1880 quarter (Narrow "0" over Wide "O") in my change. Seems to me the 1991 and the 1880 quarter's are both getting hard to find in yer change! Glenn

DBM I agree with you, I have seen many rolls or quarters from rolls up for sale, but few circulated examples. Were '91 rolls hoarded?

is there a difference in the value of one from a proof set as opposed to one intended for circulation?

North of 49 - the proof coin will be worth more than a business strike up to MS-64, at MS-65 the business strike is worth considerably more than the proof. Most of the coins from rolls were MS-63 or MS-64, which is why the price goes from around $20 in MS-64 to about $130 is MS-65.
I've never found one in circulation, and I suspect I never will :(

I have a good number of 91s from circulation, I had a reason for watching for them I think I just noticed they didn't surface very often, and probably realised the low mintage as I know I have a Charlton guide from 92. I operated a pretty large coin op game business and saw a lot of quarters each and every day by the sacks full I always kept an eye out for anything different, silver or rare date, I would personally count 3 to 4 million quarters every year up to 1999, and I might have 40 to 50. I can't say I looked all that hard and certainly only glanced as they went through mechanical counters into rolls. Haven't looked at them recently but would guess most are just average circulated. I think 1 is proof, I probably found 10 proofs of various dates, obviously not everyone shares our interest.

hmmmm I do have a quarter jar on my desk. I wish I had time to go through it see if I have any. I wasnt really aware that there was lower mintage for that year. I prefer nickels and dimes. :)

Yep, only 459,000 minted in 1991. Taking into account the large number of mint rolls and uncirculated 1991's, I'd have to assume the amount of coins that actually made it into circulation is very, very limited.
I didn't find one today, but I did get a silver 1954 dime in change :)
