Do you know who minted the token ?
Sherritt mintConfirmed. The hexagon-with-a-line-through-it symbol seen on the "999 fine silver" sticker inside the box is the Sherritt Mint mintmark. Sherritt Mint produced most of the Canadian nickel "tourist dollars" from the 1970s and 1980s, don't see as many of their pieces from the 1990s.
The token bears the "1992" date on both sides: on the reverse on the canoe, and on the obverse under the portrait; it's a little hard to read on the OP's pic but on the
Numista nickel-plated steel example you can read that the text below the portrait says "Not Valid After Dec 1992".
