Is It Seljuq Dirham? Which Ruler? - Coin Community Forum

NumiFan Valued Member Poland 136 Posts	Posted 01/18/2026 10:12 am Hello This coin looks like dirham from Seljuq's Rum, at least the letters look like from my other Seljuq coin. This is piece is 2.87g and 19mm. The problem is that I'm struggling with finding a reference. Maybe it's not a Seljuq coin after all? Thank You in advance. Report this Post to the Staff

january1may Pillar of the Community Russian Federation 5172 Posts	Posted 01/18/2026 12:06 pm It looks like one of the Crusader imitative dirhams from Damascus, so it's probably either that or one of the original Ayyubid coins they're imitating. Perhaps something like Zeno 356518; it looks similar but my knowledge of Arabic is not even close to enough to tell whether the legend match. I hope that this is indeed a Crusader imitation as I'd like to have an example of Christian imitation of a Muslim coin. Report this Post to the Staff

Composition: Silver. Denomination: 1/2 Dirham. Mint: Dimashq (Damascus). Year: AH 584 (1188/89 AD). Diameter: 16 mm. Report this Post to the Staff

It doesn't match any of the Saladin dirhams on Zeno to me (and is a lot closer to the coins I linked, of al-Salih Isma'il, half a century later). Unfortunately I'm not even close to good enough on Arabic to even figure out which part is the ruler's name, never mind which ruler it is.
