The left ribbon looks like
Obverse Design Variety 007 or 009, with the widely curved left ribbon overlapping (1926-1937) or touching (1935 or 1938) the last digit of the date. That eliminates dates before 1926. The mint mark is blurry on your photos. If it is
Denver mint mark style 001, with a narrow angular slot, your coin would have to be 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929, or 1934. If it is Denver mint mark style 002, with the slightly wider and more oval slot, your coin would have to be 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, or 1938. (Both mint mark styles were used in 1934). It is highly unlikely this is a 1938-D.
The third digit of the date could be either a mangled 2 or a mangled 3. The best chance to pin a specific date would be if the left ribbon only touches the last digit, rather than overlaps it, because that would almost certainly be 1935-D.
