This 2000-P dime has almost no raised rim. Ordinarily, I would say that it's wear, but the other devices look basically normal. Is it a weak strike, a worn rim gutter on the die, circulation wear, some kind of PMD? I should add: mass is 2.22g, well within tolerance. Edited by Brandmeister 01/31/2026 3:48 pm

@brand, does the reeding along the edge look normal?

A weak broadstrike was my original thought, but the reeding runs along the complete perimeter. The reeds are a little shallow compared to other dimes, but that could also be from wear. I believe a weak strike often results in shallow reeding die to low strike pressure?

I would think it is a centered broad strike.

Just curious, is the circumference the same, compared to other dimes?

a collar that deployed but not all the way closed?
Is this dime a bit larger in diameter than normal?

It appears to be the same diameter as other dimes. Besides, if it were broadstruck, it would not have reeds and the coin design would be driven into the planchet deeply. I suspect this is some other phenomenon. Although I cannot claim to know much about broadstrikes, as I have never owned one.

Are the reeds weakest @k12 on the obv?

From Error-Ref.com on Weak Strikes: Quote: 1. A weak strike will show a poorly developed or absent design rim. 2. A weak strike will retain some, most, or all of the planchet's original proto-rim. 3. A weak strike will retain the beveled rim/edge junction of the planchet. 4. The edge will be weakly struck and relatively narrow in a weak strike. 5. Reeding will be weak or absent in a weak strike. 6. In a weak strike, extent and pattern of weakness will be essentially the same on both faces. https://www.error-ref.com/weak_stri...rampressure/
