While I am aware of the 2007 "Alpine Skiing" Painted Leaf 25 Cent Petro Canada coins, one being dated 2007 (rare, 900 coins produced) and the actual 2008 dated Mule Coin ( Approx. 40,000 minted).
After all my research I found this from Coins and Canada as well as Saskatoon Coin Club:
"On October 26, 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint confirmed that a small number of 25-cent alpine skiing coins produced for collector products issued on October 24, 2007 bear a 2008 date on the obverse, or "heads" side of the coin, rather than the 2007 date. This error is limited to alpine skiing coin sports cards sold exclusively at participating Petro-Canada outlets and a small quantity of Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games coin collections. The 22 million 25-cent alpine skiing coins produced for circulation are not affected."

The thing is, I have both regular issue Alpine Skiing coins dated 2007 & 2008 as well, which according to above, were not meant to happen.
Can anyone shed some light on this perhaps?

Well if you have lots and lots of both dates then I'd say the information you quoted is wrong. If you found just one coin then I'd say either someone removed the red paint or you found an oddball.

GMS5...the painted ones never made circulation, 22 million unpainted did. I have 2 of the painted "non-mule" 2007 date in the Petro-Can wrap...they are rare (try and find one for less than 300 and that is a bargain. The "mule" 2008 date painted ones in the Petro-Can wrap are actually very common for that particular coin in the Olympic issue series of 2007 (I think there was something like 450000 minted). In simplest of terms: "mule" maybe worth a couple of bucks, "non-mule" maybe a few hundred.

This has always been one of the most confusing coins I have ever seen. I wish that "they" would flip it and call the 07' the mule; NOT the 08'.

That statement is the complete opposite of what really happened. The fact is that a SMALL NUMBER of 2007 dated coins were minted, not 2008.

Also, I tried for years to get one to fill my set, but as mentioned, I could never find one at anywhere close to its posted value.
