Ok... Guess I'm gonna push my luck a bit ! I'm pretty sure there are at least two clips and looking real close at the photos, you may see the third one. The third one can be seen best on edge view. Nice square edge for a D MM. Thanks for looking. Hope everybody is having a good day.

I'd say there's 2 Clips at most. Nice error coin.

The nickel is in really good condition to happen to have a haphazard hit to the rim - I'll give ya 3

Thanks E&V, Dearborne and Marve65 I'm with you.. I don't think that third area is a hit. I appreciate the comments. Have a good evening.

I believe the third area (where the "D" mint mark is) reflects what is referred to as the "Blakesley Effect," which is weakness in the design or in the rim itself on the opposite side of the coin where the rim clip occurs. (Rim clips are usually visible on one side of the coin only as it's not a "through" clip.) The reason you don't see this effect under the word "STATES" of the nickel is because the Blakesley Effect is often absent in the case of large clips. That's because the dies' impact is concentrated on a much smaller piece of metal, boosting the effecting striking pressure. This increased striking pressure overcomes the lack of a proto-rim and generates a normal design rim.

Very nice error coin. Great find! I've noticed some "two clip" errors selling on e-bay right now for around 45-50 dollars.
