Was bidding on a Canadian coin recently, had to stop due to fear of a CBSA 25% tarriffs which would make the winning bid 100% with fees. exchange, HST, and Tariffs.

I've had to pay HST plus a flat rate fee (for clearance entry) of $10-15 on out of country purchases before. Never any additional tariffs.

I've gotten hit with GST+PST+Clearance Fee for a few out-of-country purchases. Because the droids at the CRA/CBS/PostOffice don't read what is in the package, I've successfully appealed many of the charges on .9999/bullion silver (filled out the Casual Importation Form).

I get a sense of satisfaction knowing it's costing the government many times over what they would be collecting to refund it all back.

If you get hit with tarrifs, you can either refuse to pay and ask them to return the package to the border agency and clarify the situation from there or you can pay and then ask for a refund with the proper code. All they need is you to be very clear about the link between the invoice (describing they are indeed legal tender coins) and the tracking number of the package.

good old collectible coins aren't supposed to be subject to extra tarrification, if they are its a mistake on their side.

Just received a coin from Great Collections auction in California today and no extra taxes or tariffs. Took only 8 days by USPS/Canada Post to Ontario. Was anxious about potential extra costs, but the hammer price was too good to not buy, so good news (in this instance!)

For sellers from US to Canada, noting on the customs form, or USPS label on envelope that the coin is for " NUMISMATIC RESEARCH PURPOSES " seems to allow for no tariff and taxes when mailed from USPS to Canada Post to purchaser. The government up here already provides little value for the tax dollar as it is ( my opinion), so I try not to give them any more if it can be helped! Can't say as to how it works from Canada into USA since I've not sold anything to south of the border. Just thought I'd throw this out there, because I've found some good selections in US auctions which have been reasonable purchases without extra tariffs and taxes, despite the poor value of the CAD
