Hey guys found this nickel and was able to obtain it off of ebay for relatively cheap. The guy mentioned a possibility of it being a proof (I didn't really think it was), but then it came in the mail yesterday. He said that two guys from grading companies told him it was a proof and 2 said no (can't trust everything you hear but he was very straight up with me, I'll give him that). The luster and details are definitely there along with the die mark at around 8 o'clock on the reverse. However, I still don't have a clue and I think I'm just getting my hopes up. I'm thinking a high end business strike in the high MS range, but I could at least see why it could be a proof. Thoughts?

To CCF! I'm not definite, but it looks like a very nice Business Strike to me, rather than a proof.

This nickel we see looks like a business strike - but then with the image NOT cropped properly, I cannot tell.

That loos like an image that a seller on ebay would use to trick or hide details that a potential buyer would otherwise see.

Please CROP your image properly.

I have a supposed 1913 Type 1 proof. I'll probably never send it in. From what I've read the rim should be mirror-like. Don't know if that pertains to 1915 though. The strike on my 1913 is stronger than the 1915, especially noticeable on the mantle.

Send them in for grading if you think they are.

Comparing the PCGS photos your coin doesn't have the sharp squared off edges of a proof. As for the 1913 I have, I'm not as concerned. I paid way less than proof price to get the sharpest struck early Buffalo I could afford. The seller's opinion was that it is a proof, and that's enough for me.

Nice looking, in collectable conditions, not MS, a TPG would give this an AU grade.
