Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post.
I have a genuine solid gold 20 Mark coin from the German Empire dated 1874 and would appreciate some help with valuation and any additional information.
Could anyone help with:
1. The specific mintage figure for the 1874-B
2. Any recent sold prices for this exact date and mint combination
3. A realistic value estimate for selling

@ric, first welcome to CCF. Second, you will see that I have moved your thread over to a more appropriate forum.

That is a nice 20 Mark coin you have there. Have you already looked on the numista website to get an idea of mintage? If not, then this would be a great place to begin your research.

1. SCWC has the mintage at 824,338 https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...duid-1374770

2. This specimen in comparable condition sold at auction for the equivalent of 362 euro a few years ago when gold was at around 1800 euro/ounce. https://www.numisbids.com/sale/7131/lot/?lot=5382

So, if I did the math right, that sale price was below bullion value
.
3. Today gold is at about 4000 euro. When I do the math, I come up with a bullion value of about 920 euro. Taking into account that places like coin shops pay, say, 95% of bullion, you might get 875 for it.

Thanks @tdziemia

I am new to coin collecting and was given my German grandfathers coin collection. I see some prices for the Mint Mark A for around 1300 euros, but can't find any B ones from 1874. Not sure where to list the coin either, I have it on ebay right now.

On US E-bay other dates of this type have sold at $1100-1200 (940 - 1025 euro using the avg ROE of 0.855 e/$) in the last 60 days. You can see from the NGC link in my earlier post that the 1874-B is not a rare date, and would be priced like any other date. When doing your research on ebay always make sure to only look at items that have sold (not asking prices).

An auction sale (my last post) also reflects that the buyer pays a 20% commission on top of the selling price.

On ebay you can always ask as much as you want, and then see what kind of bids come in. I think that's as good a place as any to sell it.

This site is also a good place to see how much is being asked by European sellers (retail price) for German coins: https://www.ma-shops.com/

Good luck, and if you have other questions on other coins, start a new thread.
