I have a few 1798 Large Cents but this one caught my eye recently. It's an S-186 and has the diagnostic reverse rim break and arc die crack. I bought it raw, and welcome comments and opinions on the grade. The color is medium brown in hand. Member ANA and EAC "You got to lose to know how to win". Dream On by Aerosmith

Nice variety. You may know PCGS has photos of the different grades for denominations including large cents. It's fun to compare their pics with coins as a start to get a general range. I'd say VG to F but can't be more specific. https://www.pcgs.com/photograde

Lovely coin. I say any US coin dated in the 1700's where you can still read the legends and has complete portraits is a treasure indeed. Grade is somewhere on the lower end - definitely below F range, but you need a series expert to weigh in.

looks like G-6 or VG-8 sharpness with some ED and scratch on upper reverse.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions and comments. I felt that it was a G6 but falls a bit short of VG8. I will probably get it graded and expect a details grade for the reverse corrosion spot but I've convinced myself that the scratch at the top of the reverse is just another die crack. Of course I also believe that the Easter Bunny will visit me this weekend.

Quote: I've convinced myself that the scratch at the top of the reverse is just another die crack looks recessed so it would not be a die break. dont think it would matter much as the the corrosion would supersede that

I agree - my scratch comment was intended as a joke.
