I believe that is Die Deterioration Doubling. For whatever reason, modern Denver nickels often have major DDD flowing towards the center. It is often shallow and very broad, making me wonder if Denver doesn't plate or treat the die surfaces with something prior to striking. I have not seen a similar DDD pattern on modern Philly nickels, and I have looked at a lot of nickels.

I'm with the MD club.
DDD usually flows towards the rim and does not reduce the devices.

Same year and mint (2011-D), similar inwards flow of the die surface.

The Monticello building is a huge die cavity that just sucks the die surface towards it with age. Same with Jefferson's head on the obverse. The DDD on the date always slants up and left.
