Everyone, I have a coin from the German States that I am trying to identify. It's worn-smooth and probably worthless, but I still need to KNOW the German State in order to catalog the coin in my collection. And I honestly don't feel like throwing it in a pond.

The coin has no date. Probably made of copper. Inscription reads "3 Pfennig" with two 6-pointed stars around it. Also, the letter "F" is under the "Pfennig". The back is almost unrecognizable except for the fact there is some animal-like symbol on the back.

PLEASE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP, ONE LESS HEADACHE IN MY LIFE FOR A GUY THAT KNOWS LITTLE ABOUT GERMAN STATE COINS. :)

Your creature seems to be standing on a wall (I can see squares like bricks below the legs), so that would indicate this one from Anhalt-Bernberg. If this seems to be a match for what you can see (the pics are clear enough for me to be reasonably confident) then 1760 is the only possible year of your coin, too - it's a one-year-type. KM# 38.2, listed at $4.50 in VG.

Another 3 pfennig from the same place was this one dated 1753, but on that coin it was spelled the old way, "PFENNING" (with an extra N). It's KM# 38.1, same price. Double check the spelling of "pfennig" on your coin and you'll be able to tell the types apart, and from there confirm the date on your coin.

Edit to add: dang. I really need to type faster.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

thank you, after just viewing the Krause book in the Anhalt-Bernberg, 1760 did seem more plausible for the coin.....thank you
