Ok so most of you have no doubt seen all these 1 Baht coins on ebay. The sellers list hundreds of them at 1 cent, free shipping. I've checked the conversion, at 1 THB seems to equal about 3 cents. So far I have bought a few at 1 cent.... why are they doing this? How are they making money?

Thanks,
-Aaron

They seem to be pretty real.... but I'm no expert. How could I tell if they were forged?

Can't see anyone going to the trouble of producing couterfeit baht coins even here in Thailand. Anyway they prefer to produce fake banknotes. Maybe the seller is just a good samaritan wanting to help us poor numismatists.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but are there still any silver colored 2 bahts in circulation?

In cases like these, I'd suspect the seller is losing money for the sake of building up his/her feedback score. It could be for a legitimate reason--like they know that they need a trustworthy feedback score to eventually sell nicer coins. Or it could be for an illegitimate reason, like they are going to start selling gold coins or big screen TVs, keep the money and not deliver. In either case, they know they need a good feedback score before people will trust them.

Yes they are in general circulation, dates from 2005 to 2007 (Thai dates on coins BE2548-50). I've not come across any from 2008 but they may not have produced them that year because people were getting them confused with the one baht. Many shop keepers would mark the 2 baht with a felp tip to distinguish them. HOWEVER they have now produced the 2009 (BE2552) 2 baht issue in aluminium-bronze and the 50 and 25 satang coins (previously aluminium-bronze) are now of copper-plated steel.
