Need Help With Coin Identity? "basileus"

MobtownBuzi New Member United States 27 Posts	Posted 06/21/2009 12:14 am I have no clue where this coin is from. I'm not knowledgeable in Greek/Roman/Byzantine coins. I know the coin says "Basileus"..but that's all I know. Plus, the coin could be counterfeit..I have no clue Anyways. Thank You SO much for any information given. Report this Post to the Staff

It took a bit of eyestrain, but the obverse legend reads HERODOU BASILEOS - King Herod. The coin is purporting to be a bronze coin of Judaea, from just before the time of Christ. I say "purporting" because I'm pretty sure it's not genuine. It's far too round, and the artistic style of the helmet on the obverse looks cartoonish. Here's what it's supposed to look like. Yours is probably a Holy Land tourist copy. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S.
