I found this coin and I see the corrosion on the front but was wondering what the flattening on the back is from?

Just damage of some sort, maybe from laying on something.
What caused it doesn't really matter, damage is damage.

It's damage. PMD. The flattening on the reverse is just the result from damage. Not an error.
