In the final analysis, the true purpose of my coin collection is to finance my retirement. When I retire, it all goes.
Of course, I plan on spending my retirement years collecting coins.....
I guess your forum advertised age of 13 is a little optimistic ?

I gave up trying to get my birthdate correctly listed on this forum. I got it right once, but it reverted on its' own a week or two later. Eisenhower was President during my birth year.

On the final day of my collection I plan to drag all of the items outside into a large heap on the front lawn where I have prepared a proper funeral pyre and invite all of my friends and neighbors over to watch in horror as I light the conglomeration........hopefully the paper notes will make a fine starter and the kindling and logs will burn hot enough to make all the coins melt into oblivion..........THUD.........OUCH.......what?Where am I ? I had the wierdest dream..........I was in the wilderness.....maybe it was out west........OUUUUCH.........I think I fell out of bed!!!.....Ohhh my head

Of all the imaginative answers, I like Carl's the best! However, it should be noted that here in the middle of the Arizona desert with less than 5% humidity, we have a Perpetual Coin Care Center for those who aren't certain what to do with their collections after they have no further use for them. Mailing address provided upon request. While I voted for "Let's others worry about it", in truth I may have to cash in my collection for whatever I can get if gas prices continue to erode what little is left of my pensions. If there's anything left over when I croak and my kith and kin have paid for my funeral (presuming there's anything left to bury after I've been eaten by a grizzly), my nephew and niece can reap the rewards. Of course, they know this and have been plotting my demise for some time.

Well I'd like to keep my collection until my final days and then pass it onto my kids (if we have any) or any other relative who wants to carry on collecting and promise not to sell or give a single coin

I voted to pass them on but I will sell off th more common coins so that my kids will not have all the clutter of wheat cents and other low end coins that won't increase in value very fast.

Nice one! Carl, might I suggest area between Kangaroo Island and mainland Australia, directly south of Cape Jervois? Water here is first class goodbye spot. With howling winds and sea-gulls galore, you'll be glad you came. But please send accurate map so can occasionally check to ensure no-one disturbs final resting place. Cheers

All except 2 MS Morgans will go to my Daughter and Grandsons. Those two coins will go over my eyes when I'm buried so I will have them to look at in the afterlife.

Now here's a nice little story that's a tiny bit relevant ...
There's this old aussie/italian friend of mine. We were both in the same antique bottle collecting club.
Okay, I'll describe this bloke by mentioning the names Abbott and Costello. Now, my friend was a lot like Lou Costello, but we'll just call him Gino ... because, after all, that's his real name.
Gino's collection was just fabulous, and it was sad to see him sell everything upon learning he had prostate cancer.
Time passed and Gino's dear wife died; his son is in the Big House doing more time for being stupid, and Gino, well, he's never looked so good! Just goes to show ...
Anyway, in a strange mix of celebration and sympathy I sold Gino most of my modest collection. It made him very happy because Gino was a passionate fellow around bottles (empty or otherwise). And just observing his shear delight was reward enough for me ... And what the heck, I thought, when in later dis-belief my wife said "You sold your what?"
Upshot really here ... you don't know what you're gonna do until it's done and dusted ... if that makes any sense!

Since I have no heirs, I believe that my collection will be a total investment for our retirement, travel and enjoying ourselves.

I collect coins for me. When I am gone "me" will not care so I have not realy made any plans. Its nice to think of all my familly members fighting over the silver and gold and some grand kid walking off with my dark side collection which I would value far higher than any of the others. The only problem with this is that there are a number of close relatives who do actually collect so they may know which ones to hunt for. My Wife assures me she will spend any coins that are still spendable so a lot will be going back into circulation.
