Had this coin in another coin forum where the discussions kind of got side-tracked so I thought I'd get a few more scholarly opinions on it. Not that it's any excuse, but I'm not exactly a wizard with this Brownie Starmite II. Just do the best you can on a grade, and if you can give it a classification, that'd also be helpful. Thanks.

With streaky toning like that its hard to see marks and dings. I don't see any, so I'd say AU, more a guess with these pics. I'd have to examine it.

Breen states that there is a 69/69 RPD, and what he calls "69/8/9". These two are Breen#'s 1977 and 1978 respectively. You may have a RPD there, look at the hole in the 6 and the upper part of the loop in the 9. He states that earlier die states depict it more clearly and you apparently have a mid to late die state coin there. Both are hard to find and were discovered by Breen himself.

Hope my feeble attempt helps! Nice coin!

Thanks a bunch Bruce for the grade and info. Surface-graining might disguise a tiny carbon spot here or there, but that's about it on the marks, far as I can tell. Appreciate it.

And Dave, yes. And I got the 35mm negatives developed at Walgreen's.

J/K Brucester! Sorry about that. I was having a little good fun with our moderator and y'all. Took these shots with my trusty Canon PowerShot 500-S Digital Elph. Boy that's a mouthful, huh?

Tell ya the truth, I wish I still had that BS-II. Same with my old record player and circular-dial or whatever those were called telephone. Those were the days my friend.

Since you put this under varieties & errors, are you asking if it is the 1869/9?

If so, I believe that it is not the variety.

eddiespin, I checked the "book, amnd only a cpouple numbers are close. Can you get anithed shot with less magnification, , (about half of that shown), and change the light angle to 12 oclock, and nearly vertical.

Dick, sorry for the long wait, but I still don't have my camera back. This is from an old file of the whole date. I just thought it wouldn't hurt if I uploaded it. It's obscure, but it's the best I've been able to do on that, given the graining.

eddiespin,I can't tell enough from the pictures to say anything about the "6", but there is a possibility of a "9n".
(Moderator, if you wish to move this part to Photography section, fine. I'll look for an answer there, also)
While we are on the "Powershot's", I have a question for you. It ashould be in the Photography section, but I'm going to take the chance and ask. Do you have the TV i,age out, on your camera. If so, how long does it stay on? I can't get mine, (A590 IS) to stay on fior more than about three seconds. Is there an adjustment.

Eddie,

I am almost certain that the coin is a Breen# 1977 (Snow-3)! Now, the question is, what will it grade?! It is really hard to tell with the Wood Grain toning but it appears to be a solid MS-63RB but might go higher. The Fourth Edition - Volume One of the CherryPicker's Guide which we all know is 8 years old, gives a value of $550 for the Variety in MS-63 and my' September issue of Coin Values gives a price of $1300. I found this one that sold on ebay for $695 but it is only an ICG EF-40!

I could not find a simliar one grade-wise that sold to get an idea of what they are going for! However, if you plan on selling it, you might want to wait until the Coin Market rebounds somewhat.

Hey Frank, great to see another familiar face, here...I mean, name...I mean...oh, you know what I mean!

But, thanks for looking in on this...I'll heed the advice! Glad you felt able to classify the variety for me, too, as well as give it that nice grade. Although, the grade (and, I guess, the variety...at least, for some folks) is a little tricky, because of that graining.

To Dick: I'm no wizard with on thing. But, just hang in there, pal, let me go take a look at mine (I shall return). ...OK, I'm back. Bad news, I don't think I have one of those, Dick. I do have a big hole on the bottom of the camera that looks like it might take a cable, but I have no idea what that's for. Mine is an S500, if that means anything.

Eddiespin, Hello again! sorry about the delay, but things have been a bit hectic here, (the wife having problems), and I hadn't come back here until today.
On my camera, there is three holes on the end, one for the USB cable, one for the power kit, and one for the TV image. The only "hole" on the bottom might be where the batteries , and the stick RAM plug in. The fact that it goes "off" after such a short time, and also the lack of a remote shutter control, makes me think about getting another model, or brand. I use this feature a great deal, so (for me), it is very important.
Moderator, if you see fit, you may move this to Photography.
Eddie, If we need to continue this chat, (thread), the Photography section would bwe more apprioate.

The date position and RPD match what I see for S-3 1869/69. It has high collector demand, and Rick Snow's price guide puts the S-3 at $1500 in MS63RB. Congrats!

Mucho thanks, DV, for confirming the variety classification and giving me that book value on a 63RB grade. :)
