I picked this coin up the other day at an antique center. I have tentatively id'ed a KM#557.2. I think I got a deal, but not sure. If you please, is the id okay, and how would you grade (that nasty black fungus?) Finally ya think it is worth slabbing?
THANX in advance

Nice coin! The oldest indian coins I have are a 1957 1 paise and a 1967 1 paise.
Considering I am first generation indian, that isn't that great.
BTW, nice buy!

Nice detail this is KM#557.1 (Bombay mint)with the security edge. I'd grade it as AU-55, but the black gunk and dings on the upper lip will drop the value a bit. Value wise I'd say @$15.

echizento,
Ya know I originally identified as the .1 variant. But the rim does not match -

Definitely #557.1 To me the rim seems OK. The illustration in Krause for this type may have been overcropped. If you look at #557a I tnink you'll see the correct rim.
