i am begining to search a previously unsearched horad of lincoln cents. (unsearched for errors and variteties). I know they are unsearched, because it is my own hoard. while living and working in northernd Canada,in 1975, I won a imperial gallon (5 US quarts - approx.) of Canadian Club whiskey. after enjoying the contents, and moving back to the States, I began saving cents in the bottle. some time after completely filling it, I then forgot about it. last night, thinking it might be a good place to look for varieties etc, I began sorting the coins. so far, and only a few inches down the bottle, it appears that the NEWEST coin is 1982, with more than 3/4 being "Denver" mint marks. (i was living in North Dakota, while I was filling the bottle). I think I am going to track the total statistics. I believe I have found a 1964D rpm, which I will try to post later. moral - sometime we don't need to look far, for some opportunities. I also believe I have found a 1981 (brass) cent. I only read about them recently on this forum. I found one which is completely different colored than any cent I have ever found. I will try to post that one later - also.

Varieties in Holland of lincoln cents are NOT collected. Most dutch collectors throw cents into kg. bags. Wheat cents are only collected by year and letter. the VDB on 1909 and 1910 are funny, the rest is not. double die 1955, 1982, 1984 and such varieties, are definitely not interesting over here.
I myself have a cupronickel cent of 1980 and one of 1962 found in such kg.bags. Good luck, Eric.

Please send me all of your 1955 DDOs, I will even pay the shipping

It would have to have been struck on a dime planchet, weight should be 2.27 grams. An off metal error such as that would be worth a few hundred dollars.

Just as here. Lincoln cents are the coins that are the most difficult to get rid of. You're better off trying to sell East German or Soviet Union change than LMCs.

Eric, a cupro-nickel 1962 Cent would have had to have been struck on a foreign planchet, as Roosevelt dimes were .900 fine Silver in 1962. Either way, if they are genuine the errors would be worth a couple hundred Dollars.
Personally if I found a rare coin from another country that might be worth $3,000 uncirculated, it would quickly become interesting. Especially in a day when the there are instant markets like ebay worldwide. A key coin may not fit into your collection, but there are many collector's who would love the opportunity to acquire a 1955 DDO Lincoln Cent. ~ Jim

I was naturally skeptical when I read the heading "unsearched hoard of Lincolns" for the ten thousandth time on the forums !
I didn't expect to find that "it was YOUR OWN UNSEARCHED HOARD" though
